Vantage Data Centers Continues Exponential Growth with Five-Market Expansion in Asia Pacific
Over the past two years, Vantage Data Centers has transitioned from a three-market data center operator in the United States to a leading global data center provider across the North American and European markets. This growth has occurred rapidly through both organic expansions and strategic acquisitions – including the acquisitions of Next Generation Data, Etix Everywhere, the data center business of Hypertec and 4Degrees Colocation.
And now, Vantage is increasing our footprint to the Asia-Pacific marketplace with a $1.5 billion U.S. investment by our lead investor, DigitalBridge Investment Management, along with participation from other existing Vantage investors.
Expansion into Asia Pacific Market
Our APAC expansion is anchored by two acquisitions that, upon close, will enable us to offer data center services to hyperscale, cloud, and large enterprise customers across five new markets – Tokyo, Osaka, Melbourne (pictured above), Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur.
First, Vantage acquired Agile Data Centers, a data center provider in the Asia-Pacific region developing greenfield hyperscale campuses totaling 168MW of critical IT load in Tokyo, Osaka and Melbourne. Second, Vantage will acquire the data center business of PCCW Ltd. (PCCW DC), which includes approximately 100MW of existing and expansion critical IT load across multiple facilities in Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur, once the transaction closes in the fourth quarter.
“Following successful expansions throughout the United States, Canada and Europe over the past three years, we are expanding to Asia Pacific to better serve customers on a global basis. The key to our global expansion has been finding well-aligned partners who bring local expertise, an established footprint, a strong management team and the ability to scale quickly,” said Sureel Choksi, president and CEO, Vantage Data Centers. “The combination of Agile and PCCW’s data center business does just that.”
These acquisitions drastically increase the number in which we operate. Vantage will have 22 campuses across the four continents of Asia, Australia, Europe and North America.
Giles Proctor, formerly the president and co-founder of Agile Data Centers, has joined Vantage as president of our APAC business, overseeing a team that will include approximately 150 employees.
Brian Groen, senior vice president of data centers, PCCW DC, will also join Vantage as our senior vice president, APAC, once the PCCW DC transaction closes.
“I’m thrilled to welcome Giles Proctor, Brian Groen, and their highly talented teams to Vantage,” said Choksi.
“My team and I are excited to join the global Vantage family to expand the combined company’s presence in Asia Pacific,” said Proctor. “This offers our customers additional key markets in which to do business with trusted partners who bring in-country knowledge and a commitment to building and operating high quality, sustainably designed data center facilities.”
